What does it take to
make a difference?
At any given moment, parents must be prepared to protect and
defend their children.  When faced with an emotional crisis that is as
unpredictable as a child's behavior, process, procedure, and policy
are the means to the solution.  These are words that the administrators
will stand on, and they are the same words that are accessible to the
parent.  But, administrators know and use this information all the time.
If your child finds themselves involved in a disciplinary crisis, the time
to learn the information has passed.  Your are now crawling down the
fast lane of crime-guilt-punishment and many times because police are
at the school or on re-dial from the principals office, law enforcement is
involved.
How do I file a complaint?

Where can I get the forms for Level 1, 2, and 3?

What are the time constraints?

What does the student code of conduct say?

What should my child know in the event a police officer is
called or is present?

What can I do if the punishment does not fit the crime?

When should the Texas Education Agency be involved?

Is "zero tolerance" still enforceable, and if so under what
circumstances?

What kind of action can the school board take?

How can the superintendent be held accountable?
It is possible for one person to make a difference.
However, the odds are much greater
                  when people work together.

School board members volunteer their time to oversee school districts.
The information that they have to work with depends on the information
that is presented to them.  Superintendents oversee the lower levels of
administration and are able to act on the information relayed to them.
Principals are directly in contact with your children.  What information are
they presenting to their superiors?  What information are they leaving
out?  If principals are allowed to intimidate parents and children in order
to keep the wheels turning as they steer the school district toward the
illusion of fair and accurate discipline, there will be no changes.  One
incident, reported by one family may create a small temporary "on
guard," but the results are limited because of the single incident
appearance. Real change will take the involvement and follow-through of
all parents who suspect that their child was treated unfairly,
over-punished, or had their rights violated.

KNOW WHAT ACTION YOU CAN TAKE

BE PREPARED TO INFORM OTHER PARENTS
OF THE ACTION THAT THEY SHOULD TAKE
            AND HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE
               FOR THE FOLLOW THROUGH
FOR MY CHILD
FOR ALL
CHILDREN
Step up for your child and do the hard stuff!
What should you know?
Teach your child to stand up for what is right by example.  If every family who is
effected negatively by the school system addresses the issue by explaining away the
problem as "that's just the way the world is" and tells their child to "suck it up and
move on," we are only adding to the problem.  When you take the easy way and do not
stand for what is right, you not only do an injustice to your child, you are also doing an
injustice to every other child .  Don't walk away with a "can't do anything about it"
attitude, leaving the door wide open for the problems to reoccur.

There can be no accountability if the issues are not brought to light.
